Youth Classes

Hands-on workshops for ages 6-15

We hope to reach makers from all corners of our community – all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels are welcome at Gorge MakerSpace. To achieve this, we strive to keep our classes as affordable as possible. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact us.

  • Camp Chair

    ➔ 2 Mondays, Sept. 14 & 21 | 2-5pm

    This chair goes with you anywhere! Easy to make, convenient to store and pack, it’s a crowd pleaser around the campfire and at the music festival. This project is perfect for beginner woodworkers, with an accessible and gratifying result.

  • Fantastical Fairy Houses

    ➔ 5 Mondays, Sept. 14 - Oct. 12 |
    1:45-4:45pm (9am-3pm on Sept. 28*)

    If you were a fairy, where would you live? Come design and build your own fairy house from start to finish. In this 5-part series, you’ll have all the time and guidance you need to sketch your design, choose and measure the right materials, and decorate your house inside and out. Come stretch your imagination and creativity!

    The digital fabrication lab (affectionately called the Fab Lab) is where we keep all our 3D printers, laser and vinyl cutters. It's also where you can make your digital dreams come true! This is an open shop format, which means students come with some prior experience and knowledge, and we provide assistance with their projects.

  • Practical Projectiles

    ➔ Monday, Sept. 28 | 9am-3pm

    Ready. Aim. Fire! During this all day workshop we’ll explore catapults, trebuchets, potato cannons and more. An inspiring and hands-on way to learn the basic physics of gravity.

  • Swashbuckling Swords

    ➔ 2 Mondays, Oct. 5 & 12 | 2-5pm

    In this 2 -session class you'll have time to create a work of art that will make you proud for years to come. Shaping, texturing, painting, adding a grip, guard and pommel are all skills you will learn.

  • Fall Folk Craft: Felted Woodland Friends

    ➔ Sunday, Oct. 18 | 2:30-5:00pm

    Join us to learn the art of needle felting! You'll create a miniature version of a woodland animal of your choice from a photo. We will make bendable armatures, then felt wool around them to make an animated furry pet or creature. Please bring an image for inspiration; all other materials will be provided. Taught by Molly Holmlund.

  • Fanciful Flights

    ➔ 2 Mondays, Oct. 19 & Nov. 2 | 2-5pm

    Who doesn't love to make things fly? In this 2-session class we'll explore numerous ways to build simple aircraft, such as boomerangs, paper airplanes, helicopters and more.

  • Felted Mushroom 2-Piece Pouch

    ➔ Monday, Oct. 19 | 2-5pm

    Come learn the art of wet felting as we create a charming little mushroom-shaped pouch. The mushroom cap becomes the lid, and a simple pull-string closure allows you to open and close your pouch. A sweet, one-of-a-kind piece to keep little treasures in!

  • Stained Glass for Kids

    ➔ 4 Mondays, Nov. 2 - 23 | 2-5pm

    Join us for 4 afternoons of making stained glass art! You’ll learn how to cut, grind, foil, and solder glass to create one of a kind pieces. From two-dimensional panels and picture frames to three-dimensional plants and boxes, there are endless possibilities of what you can make with stained glass. No experience required to sign up. All materials are provided.
